When a fan runs onto the field during a baseball or football game the network makes sure the folks at home can’t see it. It’s an ethical decision. By keeping the problem localized they avoid encouraging other fans to copy cat in the future. I find it unusual that news outlets don’t follow suit when it comes to shooting sprees. Sometimes I feel like they are doing the exact opposite. Why? Ad based revenue models. It’s not about ethics or consumers. It’s about customers(advertisers). It’s sad that we are more ethical about broadcasting sports than news.

Sadly, I think the exact same thing described in the video below will happen with the recent shooting spree in Connecticut.
